A description of the different types of yoga and a little bit of history.

There is a lot more to yoga than the physical practice, asanas, that most people think of. Yoga is not a religion nor a simple experience program. It’s a scientific path towards happiness, dating back 5000 years, originating in India.

Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hatha yoga.

The two biggest influencers, bringing yoga to the western world, were two students of Sri Krishnamacharya, B.K.S. Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois.
Pattabhi Jois created specific sequences, and called it Ashtanga Yoga.
B.K.S. Iyengar is the creator behind the alignment technique of Iyengar Yoga.

Over the years Viola has developed her own personal style of yoga. She takes inspiration from Hatha, Iyenga, Astangha and Yin, along with other various disciplines and teachers she has studied with in Australia and Europe
